Healing Touch is widely used in treating the fatigue, nausea and pain that frequently accompanies the treatment for cancer.  Healing Touch is often cited by cancer patients as providing a sense of comfort and connection that got them through difficult cancer regimes and helped them to keep going.

The diagnosis of cancer often brings feelings of fear, anxiety, and loss.  The treatment phase of the disease focuses on the destruction of cancer cells which often can impact healthy tissue as well.  Healing Touch is able to provide a supportive environment for the person undergoing treatment.

Numerous studies of Healing Touch used in the treatment of cancer show it can help to decrease some of the side effects of treatment and improve overall quality of life.  In one study, women receiving radiation treatment for gynecological and breast cancer who also received Healing Touch treatments demonstrated better quality of life with significant differences in vitality, pain, and physical functioning.

In another study Healing Touch was compared with massage therapy and “presence” during cancer treatment.  Healing Touch was found to significantly reduce levels of pain and mood disturbance and resulted in less fatigue overall.  Yet another study found that Healing Touch therapy significantly improved fatigue and nausea, while improving levels of distress and pain in those undergoing cancer treatments.

Cancer patients receiving Healing Touch during cancer treatment often report that it provides a sense of caring, a way of connecting, and enables them to open to trust.  They also reported that Healing Touch was a process by which they saw themselves as whole and having a sense of well-being.

Similarly, patient satisfaction surveys for those receiving Healing Touch during treatment demonstrated improved relaxation, improved sense of control, positive change in energy, improved sense of well-being, decreased pain, and decreased side effects of cancer treatments.

Dementia is a loss of brain function that occurs with certain diseases. It affects memory, thinking, language, and judgment and can cause changes in behaviors and personality. Some behavioral changes may be caused by the actual deterioration happening in a person’s brain, while other behavioral and personality changes may be reactions to the emotional challenges of coping with the deterioration changes. Dementia may lead to depression, aggression, confusion, frustration, anxiety, a lack of inhibition and disorientation. Most types of dementia are non-reversible.

In research studies on the affect of Healing Touch treatments on people with dementia, it was shown that Healing Touch can significantly lower agitation levels, decrease the need for psychotropic medication and have an overall calming effect. Another study on patients with late stages of Alzheimer’s disease showed Healing Touch improved standard behavioral scores. Other studies have shown institutionalized individuals receiving Healing Touch treatments realized an improvement in pain and functional ability.

I had just finished with a weekend in my home with 30 people. It was a 70th birthday party for my sister and a family reunion and many stayed overnight. The weekend did not go as well as I had hoped. The weekend, along with daily care for family and friends, left me feeling totally exhausted, depleted and zapped of all life force energy. There is a saying that “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”
This may not be a physical appearance, rather an electronic one. Face to face meetings, although necessary in some cases, aren’t the end all to the educational system. Teleconferences are now an acceptable way of education and even today college students submit their papers via the Internet.

Because I live in different parts of the country during the year, I have been able to search out and work with members of the holistic/integrative/ alternative community in both the great Northeast as well as the South. I use the terms holistic, alternative and integrative interchangeably to mean those modalities that work with you and your traditional methods of medical treatment and that take the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the individual into consideration.

Healing Touch

Healing Touch sessions can be done almost anywhere, depending on the comfort of the client.  Clients have a choice of where they might want their sessions to be held.  You may choose to come to my home office, to a small, well appointed, smoke free office managed by an established local massage therapist in downtown Burnt Hills or, if you are unable to travel, in the privacy of your own surroundings whether that be in a home, hospital, long term care facility or elsewhere.

Healing Touch for Animals®

If the animal is domestic, a Healing Touch for Animals® session is usually held in the comfort of the animal’s own home. In the case of a horse or farm animal, the barn would be the location of choice. A feral or wild animal can be treated at their place of location—distance sessions–from across the yard or in the woods—can be done.  An HTA session usually involves the animal’s caretaker and it is requested that the caretaker also be present.  This adds to the animal’s level of comfort.  If it is a shelter situation, a brief history from the staff is requested.

Tuning Forks:

The use of tuning forks can be incorporated into either a Healing Touch or a Healing Touch for Animals® session.  There is a difference in both the set up as well as the use of the forks between the two modalities.  A Healing Touch session involves a complete set of forks (13 in all) each tuned to be a fifth above or below the next fork in the series.  Two forks are always used and what you decide to address during your session determines which series of forks are used.  In a Healing Touch for Animals® session, only one fork at a time is used.  The animal set incorporates the use of 3 forks—the OM fork, the 5^th interval above OM as well as the 5^th interval below OM.  Animals, once introduced to the forks, seem to enjoy them and relax readily.

Essential Oils:

Essential oils can be incorporated into either a Healing Touch or a Healing Touch for Animals® session.  This can be discussed prior to the session; a sensitivity test done will be done prior the use of any essential oil on either a person or an animal. Only therapeutic medicinal grade Young Living Essential Oils are used.

Distance Sessions:

All of the above can be performed at a distance.  It does not matter if the client is across the room or thousands of miles away, the response will be the same.  Distance sessions provide another way to facilitate healing.

Animal Communication Sessions:

Animals are sentient beings with feelings and personalities of their very own.  You may have a question about why your animal is behaving in a certain way or how he/she is feeling.   Perhaps you are unsure about bringing another animal into the current family household.  Wouldn’t it make sense to ask your questions directly and get a response?  Would you like to be able to understand how and why your animal is behaving in a certain way?  Now you can.
